Every morning the crash phone would be tested in sickbay when the field was open.  The aircontrolman would say if it was for VFR "Visual Flight Rating", IFR if "Instrument Flight Rating" applied. Whoever took the phone call would log in "field open, VFR" or field open, IFR.  A new corpsman Jerry Chase, answered the phone one morning & put down "field open, JC".   It took awhile to figure out the new terminology on the flying conditions.  --- Don Fuller
