The original Seaplane Base eventually became known as the Lower Base. Over time it's function was to house the base's Crash and Rescue boat and became a marina for base personnel and families.Shown in the photo is the Crash Boat at the end of the dock near the boat house. On a finger dock to the left are the three pontoon boats built by the lower base personnel and named after three of the base CO's when built. Names Keller's Kanoe; Reynolds's Reck; and Shultz's Sloop. The other vessels shown docked were privately owned.  -- Hal Neubauer
