DRILL HALL
(HANGAR 3)
By Mick Glasser

Arriving at NASGI on 15 March 1946, the Drill Hall was in use as a roller skating rink, as I recall, on Thursday evenings! It did have a beautiful deck. Following the beginning of the Reserve Program around 1 June 1946, it occasionally was used for Captain's Inspections if Hangar I was otherwise occupied with aircraft. It may have been during the Korean War when we received quite a few SNJ's for pilots' refresher training that the Drill Hall deck was torn up for its use as another hangar. Hence the title Hangar III. Later, upon receipt of the HUP helicopters, it was used for their maintenance and also maintenance for the Marine Corp's aircraft, as their respective Line Shacks were located in the Drill Hall's south side office spaces.

All this if memory serves.
