The plane crashed on -07-31-43 near Lake Thingvellir, Iceland.  Chief Aviation Pilot William Bentrod of VP84 was killed, but his two passengers survived the crash with injuries.  Bill Bentrod had been a cowboy in Colorado before he joined the Navy
