U.S. Navy Aviation Training
Building # 64

"During the life of the base this building housed the bases two most significant functions. As shown here it housed ASW Training simulators and equipment. In the late 50's its conversion to ASW Training began. The first OIC was CRD J. R. Bethune. The original staff consisted of C.W.Adams, AT1; H.G. Neubauer, AT2; J.E. Mummery AE2; and W.D Auten AE3.

Prior to that time starting somewhere in the late 30's the building housed the Link Trainers. Flight Cadets were trained in these simulators and after, pilots maintained their qualifications until the Link became out dated. A
photo in the Historical Society section shows it in the original state located between the Transportation Department building and the Aviation Technical Training building. LCDR Dean Buck was the OIC of this department in the late 50 and early 60's. Their training function and building facilities were separate from ASW Training at that time."
