DRILL HALL
(HANGAR 3)
Part II
By
Richard Ross

As I remember CIRCA 1964

The Drill Hall had many line-shacks that were sort of reservist maintenance divisions on weekends.  The Marines worked the Boxcars (C-119s/ R4Qs) from there and most of the floor space was used for SH-34 maintenance.

Most of the duty that I pulled was line duty and I stayed in a "Line Shack" where there was a huge military radio of some sort that could dial up almost any distant AM radio station. This was a most lonely and remote place from midnight to 0400 (4 AM).

I think that the huge laminated wooden arced beams there, might have been some of the largest ever made.
